As we know from Bob Newhart, sense of humor may be directly related to marital longevity and quality. My parents recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. Part of the walk-down-memory-lane photo album we gave them included this tongue-in-cheek top ten list. Perchance you might be able to identify with this list, too.

Mom and Dad, in celebration of your five decades… From our home office in Saratoga Springs, here are our TOP 10 CLUES…

You Know You’ve Been Married for 50 Years When…

10. You believe that you should never go to bed angry… which has led you to many sleepless nights.

9. You hear yourselves saying, “Let’s stay together for the sake of the grandchildren.”

8. You’ve learned to forgive and forget. Well, actually, mostly you forget.

7. You turn out the lights for economic rather than romantic reasons.

6. You and your friends talk about the good old days (B.C.– Before Copernicus)… when you used to walk 12 miles (each way) to school every day (uphill in both directions) in snow up to here…

5. It’s not as much of a thrill to fight in private. It’s much better to do it with an audience (especially if it happens during one of your kids’ long distance phone calls to you… on their nickel).

4. Not only can you finish each other’s sentences… you can start them, too.

3. You feel confident that you have totally spoiled your grandchildren… and have made the job of raising them even more challenging for your own children.
